There seems to be a never ending supply of ringtone offerings available to the ringtone enthusiast. Content providers are constantly in search of the next category winner….even if it means “tuning out”! I recently came across a fun and somewhat amusing category where songs are recorded out of tune creating a comedic spin on popular hits and peformances

Just picture it…As Britney Spear's once bright shining sun sets in the west coast (read setting) and she lives a life a melancholy, have you ever wondered how “Oops I Did it again” would sound like if sung in a sad tone? Well, now you can! Download and listen to Britney and other stars perform “out of tune” ringtones, albeit not by the original artists per se, but certainly and funny way to listen to these hot songs in an entertaining manner. Of course Britney is not alone; with her are James Blunt, Mika, Robbie Williams and even a few movie tracks. Remember Ketchup Song…. It’s there too!

The new music industry Eco-System?

Gone are the traditional ways of “New Album Release” strategies…hype the release in the media, a few surprise performer appearances at the local mall. There is a new eco system to consider… music download sites, ringtones, wallpapers, new distribution channels including mobile phone carriers, device manufacturers…the list goes on.

So what do pop artists like Usher, whose new album is slated to only sell 400,000 copies in the first week – 700,000 less than his last album? Billboard.com announced yesterday Usher has inked a deal with Sony Ericsson to become the spokesman for the company’s new Walkman music phone to be released later this year. Translation: Usher is Sony Ericsson’s new poster boy in exchange for publicity. Add to it that AT&T customers will have “access to exclusive content, contests to meet Usher on a video shoot and the chance to win VIP tickets for the artist's North American tour later this year.” Believe it or not, the tour is sponsored by Sony Ericsson, how convenient and brilliant!!

And here’s another kicker…the new Walkman phone will also come packed with Usher ringtones and full album downloads…now that’s the “New Album Release” ecosystem!!

Canadian Recording industry announces most popular rintones

The Canadian Recording Industry has for the first time announced the most popular ringtones by sales generated. Around 45% of the sales accounted were for original song tones replacing the standard cover ringtones. Smack that by Akon, Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake, Promiscuous by Nelly Furtado are just some of the examples
